Swedish board manufacturer Stora Enso plans to start up the rebuilt paper machine 6 at the Oulu mill in the first half of 2025, as previously announced.

The machine, which was previously designed for coated fine papers, will have an annual capacity of 750,000 tpy and produce folding boxboard (FBB) and coated unbleached kraft (CUK) board. It is expected to reach full capacity by 2027.

According to the group's 2024 financial results, the investment programme at the Oulu mill, which has a total value of approximately €1bn, is on schedule.

Stora Enso expects the start-up to have an adjusted Ebit impact of €100m, mainly in the first half of 2025.

Hans Söhlstrom, President and CEO of Stora Enso, expects a gradual improvement in earnings thereafter.
