Stora Enso has announced that the new consumer board line has started the production ramp-up in Oulu.
The line is flexible between grades and will have the capacity to produce 750,000 tpy of folding boxboard (FBB) and coated unbleached kraft (CUK) for various end uses like frozen and chilled food, dry food, personal care, and beverage multipacks. The machine previously produced coated fine papers.
The start-up comes at a time when packaging demand in Europe is challenging. In February, Stora Enso concluded statutory negotiations on possible temporary layoffs of up to 90 days in its Packaging Materials division. The temporary layoffs are a precautionary measure to mitigate effects of weakened demand and could be implemented in several tranches, Stora Enso said at the time.
