Belgium-based paper, board and packaging company VPK Group continues its expansion on the packaging market in Italy. The group announces the acquisition of Open Imballaggi, an independent family-owned corrugated packaging producer located in Calcinate near Bergamo.
According to VPK, this strategic acquisition will complement the group's existing operations Italy and strengthen its "geographical footprint in one of Europe's largest packaging markets."
Open Imballaggi has a staff of 70 people and runs one sheet plant with a capacity to produce 40 million m² of corrugated packaging. The company reportedly serves 700 customers acros multiple industries and generates €30m in annual sales.
In 2023, VPK Group expanded its production base to Italy when the group acquired a majority stake in Italy's corrugated board and packaging producer Zetacarton. At the start of 2024, the group also announced a JV with the Italian corrugated board and packaging company Iemme Packaging.
VPK is privately owned group of companies with an annual turnover of €2bn, employing more than 7,500 people across 70 locations in 21 countries. The group's product offering includes recycled corrugated case materials, corrugated sheets and packaging, coreboard and cores, as well as solid board packaging.
