Agreements on new supply contracts for standard newsprint still out of reach in Germany

First agreements on the horizon for improved newsprint and telephone directory paper, EUWID sources say.

In Germany, negotiations on standard newsprint supplies in 2013 have not made any progress so far. While demand indicators clearly point towards lower contract volumes, positions on price issues are entrenched. Leading paper suppliers are still pushing for a price hike while buyers consider a price reduction to be more in line with the current market situation.

First agreements are on the horizon for improved newsprint, heatset grades and telephone directory paper. In the case of telephone directory paper, market players seem to have agreed on lower prices in annual contracts for 2013. Changes on the supply side of the market and the drop in newsprint prices in the second half of 2012 meant that old prices could not be retained any longer, EUWID sources say.

As far as regards deliveries of improved newsprint and heatset grades, it is expected that major contracts will be signed before Christmas.
