Ahlstrom has started producing low-grammage papers at its Stenay plant for one-side coated paper in France. The company finalised an investment announced in mid-2011.
Ahlstrom has completed a €7m investment at its French Stenay plant. The company reported it had expanded its product portfolio of one-side coated papers for metallised labels and flexible packaging at the site by adding lower-grammage paper. The plant’s PM 3 is said to produce grades spanning a range from 50 to 160 g/m2 now.
Ahlstrom explained that by lowering the weight of its products it responded to the need for lighter papers used to reduce the weight of packaging and labels. The company had announced the measure in June 2011 and had initially planned to finalise its investment in mid-2012.
The Stenay site in Northeastern France is part of Ahlstroms Label and Processing business area. This division counts a total of six sites located in France, Germany, Italy and Brazil.
