Brigl & Bergmeister will soon produce clay-coated kraft papers in Niklasdorf. The company has signed an agreement with Cham Paper.
Austrian specialty paper manufacturer Brigl & Bergmeister (B&B), producer of one-side coated paper for labels and flexible packaging, has signed a cooperation agreement with Cham Paper Group. B&B is assuming the production and marketing of clay-coated kraft papers (CCK) for release liners at its production site in Niklasdorf as soon as base paper production at the facility will be shut down. Cham Paper will be contributing the specific technological expertise required to this end. The first products manufactured at this site will be available in the second half of 2013. In 2014, B&B plans to make further investments and expand production capacity in Niklasdorf.
Cham Paper discontinued manufacturing clay-coated kraft papers in the course of transforming its production capacity in mid-2012 and produced inventory stocks for its customers in order to secure deliveries established under contract through 2013. The companies have agreed to maintain confidentiality pertaining to the details of this cooperative venture.
Moreover, Brigl & Bergmeister is planning to modernize PM 5 in Vevce, Slovenia in September 2013. PM 5 will receive a new film press that is to increase the capacity by 20,000 t. New products in the label paper and flexible packaging range are to be developed thanks to an improved pre-coating processm B&B said.
The year 2012 was a successful year for Brigl & Bergmeister, the company stated. The volume of sales increased by 5 % to 155,000 tonnes compared with the previous year as both plants in Niklasdorf and Vevce were running at full capacity. By acquiring the waste incineration plant Enages, B&B in Niklasdorf has become less dependent on the volatile energy market and improved its carbon footprint.
Cham Paper is restructuring its operations at the moment. Following the shutdown of the second paper machine in Cham with effect from the end of the first quarter of 2013, the Group‘s industrial operations in Switzerland will focus on finishing sourced base paper and the development, launch, and distribution of premium product lines and services.
