Containerboard production at Burgo's Verzuolo mill in Italy seems to be imminent. The first trial runs are taking place.
Burgo has started operations at its rebuilt recycled corrugated case material machine at the Verzuolo mill in northern Italy. A company spokesperson said that tests at the PM had begun, adding that the company could not yet say when commercial production would start. Originally, the start-up of PM 9 was planned for the beginning of 2020.
The Verzuolo site was formerly a magazine paper mill. Last year, Burgo stopped production of LWC and rebuilt the site's machine PM 9 to produce recycled corrugated case material with a capacity of 600,000 tpy in the future. At peak times, Burgo produced more than 560,000 tpy of LWC on two paper machines in Verzuolo. The 160,000 tpy LWC machine PM 8 was idled in 2018.
This is Burgo's second step into the packaging paper market. The company entered the market segment in April 2018 when it started up a rebuilt machine at the Avezzano mill. The PM 2, which formerly produced fine paper, can now make up to 200,000 tpy of recycled corrugated case material.
