Although market conditions in Germany arenot very favourable, higher prices remain the principal topic for manufacturers of woodfree coated paper.
Paper companies producing coated woodfree paper (CWF) are determined to stick to their price hike plans which envisage an increase of up to 8% for all deliveries as of February. The price increase is necessary to offset higher cost of production, not least due to increasing pulp prices, according to manufacturers
Manufacturers reported that they began the current year on a much better footing than last year which they attribute to restocking activities on the part of wholesalers. In Germany, order inflow has been satisfactory as of the second week of the year, they said. In contrast, printing and publishing companies reported that the start of the year was sluggish and that business has failed to meet expectations. At the same time, CWF paper was in good supply and readily available at short notice.
As far as regards manufacturers' plan to hike prices as of February, buyers explained those efforts have been postponed to the start of April in many instances. The current market situation just did not support the price increase, EUWID-sources stated.
