Production is to be converted to lightweight recycled containerboard.

Double A will sell its Alizay fine paper mill in France to Belgian paper and packaging group VPK for an indisclosed price. In addition, VPK will install a corrugated packaging unit which is to operate together with VPK’s nearby packaging plants and produce protective packaging for e-commerce purposes. Double A says it will supply Alizay’s paper brands from its other production units, but retain the recently implemented biomass energy plant.

After the conversion paper output from the Alizay mill will be mainly supplied to VPK’s own converting plants in France and the UK. The company says that its growth in packaging production has turned it into one of the main containerboard purchasers in Western Europe.

In addition, deinked pulp production company Inova Pulp and Paper will implement a deinked pulp (DIP) plant on the Alizay site, producing DIP grades for the tissue, office paper and packaging paper industry.

The Alizay mill has been producing uncoated woodfree paper grades and recycling grades on one machine, which has a maximum capacity of 300,000 tpy.
