The UK's Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (Defra) announced that the list of single use plastic (SUP) products banned in England is to be expanded later this year. When the changes are implemented, the items subject to sales restrictions will be the same as those banned in the EU under the Single-use Plastics Directive. In a summary of responses to a consultation launched late in 2021, the environment ministry said that the new sales restrictions would cover the supply of single-use plastic plates, trays, bowls, cutlery, balloon sticks, and expanded (EPS) and extruded (XPS) polystyrene food and drinks containers.
