A fire has caused a production stop at Mayr-Melnhof's cartonboard plant in Hirschwang, Austria. Production could be resumed yesterday.

Last Saturday night, a major fire broke out at the Austrian Hirschwang site of cartonboard and folding boxboard producer Mayr-Melnhof. The fire destroyed a storage building at the plant. A company spokesperson told EUWID that production was not affected and that operations could be restarted on Monday.

The fire fighters reported that the fire was brought under control before spreading to the plant's production hall. The cause of the blaze is not yet determined.

At the Hirschwang plant, Mayr-Melnhof produces recycled board in grammages of 400-700 g/m² with a capacity of 80,000 tpy.
