Price pressure for publication paper persits on French market in December

Capacity closures in the publication paper market seem to offer almost no relief from the price pressure on publication paper in France.

In mid-December, the market for publication paper is in the midst of negotiations for the new prices effective 1 January. The positions are now clear: buyers, unimpressed by the announced capacity closures, are entering the talks demanding price reductions that can range widely. Paper producers, for their part, are not willing to accept these demands in the current form. Many market observers anticipate that manufacturers will not be able to entirely avoid price reductions.
