"The industry needs higher prices," is newsprint producers' rallying cry. Negotiations to hammer out prices beyond 1 July are proceeding at full steam, with talks recently revolving around mark-ups that will reach €20-30/t if producers prevail, depending on the manufacturer and customer. A large number of deals had already been struck in France, at least according to some producers, but some talks were apparently still in progress. A universal outcome was not yet visible in the penultimate week in June.
