GD board producers take action to increase prices in Germany

Against the background of rising recovered paper prices producers of recycled cartonboard recently started the latest initiative to increase their sales prices. Buyers are putting up resistance, and negotiations are still going on towards the end of the month of April.

Intensive price negotiations for GD board are being reported from the market for board and folding boxes in Germany. After numerous board producers recently sent out notification of a coming price increase of up to €60/t, converters say they are now in the process of negotiating the matter. Although a few board producers say that have already had their mark-ups accepted, the majority of market players have not yet given confirmation of the implementation of such, with 1 May being given as the new key date here.

Board producers are giving the higher cost burden, especially for recovered paper, as the reason for the announced price increases. They were forced to take this action, producers told EUWID, in spite of the risk of losing volumes and having to put up with a reduction in receipts of orders.
