EUWID sources in the envelope and shipping bag paper industry report weakening business in the second quarter. Paper prices left untouched in spite of weak demand.

The activity levels in the envelope and shipping bag paper industry weakened during the subsequent quarter. Order backlogs had declined from 3-4 weeks at the end of March to around 2 weeks at the end of June/start of July. In the case that paper demand continued to weaken in the third quarter, producers said they would initiate commercial downtime to balance supply.

The envelope industry is reporting a dramatically bad demand trend. Across the EU, deliveries were down by 13% in the first five months of the current year, while they fell by almost 10% in Germany.

There had been no changes in prices for envelope and shipping bag papers during the second quarter. At the end of June, most second quarter prices have been rolled over into the third quarter, EUWID sources explained.
