Germany: Publication paper prices in disarray as the new year begins

Additional price hike demands for publication paper grades are causing chaos on the market in Germany.

Magazine and catalogue paper market in Germany has descended into chaos. After raising their prices at the start of January, publication paper manufacturers are already seeking a fresh round of price increases.

Buyers complain that they had not yet swallowed the price increase that took effect at the start of 2022 by the time that the next markups had been announced. What is more, sourcing paper remains erratic despite all of the efforts made by market players and the fact that buyers had accepted exorbitant hikes for paper.

And there are no signs of relief on the horizon: the gigantic hikes in energy and haulage costs are reportedly keeping up the pressure on paper mills.
