Good demand but stable prices on German coreboard market in August

Germany's coreboard market has not seen prices change in August despite good demand for the time of year. However, eventual mark-ups for corrugated case material could help coreboard manufacturers to increase prices in September.

Manufacturers of coreboard report unusually good demand for this time of year. Although activity levels were somewhat lower than outside of the holiday season, for August they were better than expected, respondents said. Yet the greater demand was not leading to any shortage on the coreboard market. Coreboard is readily available, according to market participants, who say that additional volumes can also be delivered on short notice.

In terms of prices, there had been no movement in August following some minor declines in July; prices were moving sideways this month, EUWID was told. The announced mark-ups for corrugated case material are influencing the coreboard makers, who are also planning new price increases. There was no specific timeframe yet, but they were aiming for an adjustment sometime during September.
