The Finnish-Chilean joint venture between Stora Enso and Arauco, Montes del Plata, has obtained the necessary environmental permit for the installation of a new pulp mill in Punta Pereira, Uruguay. According to the Uruguayan government, the permit is valid for 48 months if construction is started within twelve months its issuance.
Montes del Plata plans to invest $2bn in Punta Pereira to build a pulp mill, a biomass power plant and a port for the company’s pulp exports.
