Holmen Paper will shut down PM 61, the smaller of two paper machines at the Madrid mill. This equals almost 10 per cent of Holmen Paper’s production capacity. Approximately 170 employees will be affected. PM 61 has a capacity of 170 000 tonnes per year and mainly produces LWC paper. In recent years, the machine has seen low capacity utilisation. In 2009, the machine produced some 75,000 t of LWC paper.
PM 62, which will continue operating, has a capacity of 330,000 t of newsprint.
