Italian customers paying slightly more for CCM and recycled cartonboard as of April

Talks about fine paper and publication paper end without mark-ups so far

Spurred by high prices for ordinary recovered paper grades, recycled corrugated case material and white-lined chipboard producers raised their selling prices in April. Their cost burden remains high, though, which is especially true for GD board producers that have so far only managed to implement smaller price hikes. Recycled corrugated case material manufacturers wanted to increase their prices again for May deliveries, with the outcome of price talks still up in the air as April ended and May began.

Italian printing and writing paper manufacturers have failed to charge more from April. Most publication paper prices were left untouched in the second quarter, bringing price talks to a halt. Fine paper producers did not manage to implement higher prices in April either, with a few suppliers viewing the month as transitional and intending to make another attempt in May.

Kraftliner manufacturers had partial success on the market in April and want to push for further increases in May. GC board producers are reporting stable prices at the start of the second quarter but are facing mounting pressure from new capacity in Europe and from Asian suppliers....
