Italian recovered paper prices decline again in August

Mill stoppages during the holiday period pushed Italian recovered paper prices for ordinary grades down further in August.

Demand was weak, with some buyers ordering only small volumes or none at all. Mills also carried high stocks, while finished paper prices remained under pressure.

Exports to Asia provided some relief, but suppliers said this was not enough to offset slack domestic demand. Collection volumes were also described as particularly low.

Deinking grades softened on weak demand, too, while white grades remained stable as many paper mills were idle.

Expectations for September diverge: some players expect further reductions, others see stable prices supported by exports and low collections.
