While a conciliation for UPM Communication Papers is not in sight, UPM and Paperiliitto are willing to negotiate collective agreements on the basis of the mediation.

The ongoing mediation process between UPM Communication Papers and the Paperworkers' Union Paperiliitto has been interrupted because the parties' positions are still far apart, both UPM and Paperiliitto announced in press statements. New meetings between UPM Communication Papers and the Paperworkers' Union have not been scheduled so far, UPM explained.

However, the conciliation process for UPM Specialty Papers, UPM Raflatac and UPM Biofuels continues, and for UPM Pulp the conciliator already submitted a settlement proposal. Both parties are expected to state their position on the settlement proposal by 14 April 2022.

Paperiliitto added that it would continue to negotiate collective agreements on the basis of the mediation. UPM stated that the Paperworkers' Union was ready to finalise agreements for UPM's business segments separately. Therefore UPM Specialty Papers, UPM Raflatac and UPM Biofuels prepare to find solutions on the same schedule as UPM Pulp, the company explained.

The Union said its Board would meet on 13 April 2022 to make further decisions on the basis of the current situation.

At the end of March, the Union had announced that the strike at UPM's mills in Finland would be extended again to the end of April.
