Canadian pulp produver Mercer has shelved its plans to invest in the production of dissolving pulp. In March this year, the company had announced its intention to convert its mills into swing mills able to produce both NBSK and dissolving pulp. Now the company’s CEO Jimmy S.H. Lee stated that although the feasibility studies were favourable and did not identify any material technical impediments, the company had decided to postpone its plans as a result of significant new dissolving capacity coming online and due to certain ongoing technical and equip-ment developments.
