Newsprint producers push through small price hikes in Italy

As July drew to a close, all negotiations were already done and dusted on Italy’s newsprint market. Manufacturers seem to have actually been successful in seeking higher prices for deliveries in the second half of the year. Sources on both sides of the market quoted price hikes of €10-15/t. In a few instances, somewhat smaller increases apparently surfaced and standard newsprint had been sold at virtually unchanged prices. However, these pricing policies were typically adopted by non-European suppliers on the hunt for new business opportunities, some insiders said.
