More deals were done on the French newsprint market during the course of February, meaning that the round of price talks was considered to be largely over by the end of the month. Producers were unable to raise prices due to supply pressure over the past few months and the gap between prices in France and Germany. Standard newsprint prices have become a little cheaper. Improved newsprint prices are somewhat more stable than their counterparts in the standard newsprint sector. Comparatively solid demand, especially from major retail chains, meant that prices were under less pressure. New contracts thus tend to contain roughly the same prices as in the second half of 2011.
