Norampac's Trenton mill will remain open

Contrary to earlier announcements, Cascades will not close Norampac’s Trenton containerboard mill in Ontario. Cascades explained that the company has reached an agreement with the union and the employees on a new collective agreement. Consequently, the Trenton mill will remain open and not be closed down in June.

About 130 jobs are saved, but Cascades underscored that the challenges faced by this mill are by no means over. “However, reaching this agreement with our employees is a vital pre-condition, and we can now concentrate on identifying an action plan for achieving long-term viability.” said Marc-André Dépin, President and Chief Executive Officer at Norampac.

The Norampac Trenton facility produces corrugating medium and has an annual production capacity of 150,000 t - partly based on virgin fibres and partly on recovered fibres.
