The spread of coronavirus has led to a stoppage at Norske Skog's Golbey newsprint mill. PM 2 is standing still for an indefinite period.
Publication paper manufacturer Norske Skog was forced to halt newsprint production at the PM 2 of its Golbey mill in France. The company said that the machine was stopped on 16 March. It is not yet clear when operations can be resumed.
There was a lack of employees due to the spread of coronavirus, causing the production stop, Norske Skog told EUWID. The PM 2 is geared for a maximum production capacity of around 350,000 tpy of newsprint.
Only recently, the PM 1 at the Golbey mill had been down for three weeks. A fatal accident had lead to the stoppage in February. PM 1 can produce up to 250,000 tpy of newsprint. The Golbey mill houses two newsprint machines.
