Omya bids to acquire Imerys' calcium carbonate facilities in Europe and the US. Omya says it is looking to supplement and optimize its own global production activities.
Last week, Swiss paper minerals producer Omya has entered into exclusive negotiations with the French minerals company Imerys on the acquisition of the company's four calcium carbonate production sites in Europe and the United States
Imerys is currently examining the feasibility and benefits of the transaction. If the results of the study were positive, the transaction could be completed in the first quarter of 2014, Imerys said. Financial details of the deal were not revealed.
Imerys produces calcium carbonate for the paper industry at four sites, which are located in Sainte-Croix de Mereuil (France), Köping (Sweden), Massa (Italy) and Kimberly (United States). in 2012, the four production sites generated total revenues of €75m.
