Palm is keen to expand its corrugated sheet feeding business and Roba Group plans to focus on displays and offset-printed packaging.

Germany's paper and corrugated group Papierfabrik Palm is set to take over corrugated sheetboard manufacturer Roba Corrugated Gmbh in Zorbau near Leipzig, eastern Germany.

The German competition authority Bundeskartellamt announced on 9 February that it has been notified of Palm's intention to acquire control of Roba Corrugated.

Roba Corrugated is part of the Swiss-based Roba Group. The group runs two facilities in Germany and one in Austria.

According to Papierfabrik Palm, Roba Group considers focusing on the offset-printed packaging and displays business in the future, while Palm is looking to expand its corrugated sheetboard business. The two companies were in "exclusive and promising" takeover talks and had given a prior notification to the competition authority, the company said.

Papierfabrik Palm is also looking to grow its corrugated sheet feeding business in Italy. The company is currently in the bidding process to take over Ondulati Giusti, a major corrugated board and packaging manufacturer managed by the Italian Pro-Gest group.
