Prices for brown corrugated case materials edging higher in August

August has been a month of price increases for brown recycled corrugated case material and brown kraftliner in France, after many prices in Germany had already risen in July.

White containerboard grades initially cost the same as in July, although producers aim to follow in the footsteps of brown grades in September.

Otherwise, as is customarily the case, market players described business as quiet in most segments of the French market in the holiday month of August, with most prices left untouched.

Publication paper falls into this category, with the next round of price talks expected to occur during September. The same is true for fine paper, with insiders pinning their hopes on a good fourth quarter.

A summer lull was playing out in the cartonboard business, too, with GC prices hardly altering in August after isolated mark-ups in July.
