Recovered paper market in Poland weakens in Q2

After a period of tension and rapid price increases in early spring, the Polish recovered paper market saw a marked turnaround in the second quarter of 2025.

Prices for brown grades such as supermarket corrugated paper and board fell sharply in June, following a brief phase of stability in May. The correction was part of a broader European trend driven by oversupply and limited export opportunities.

Recovered paper volumes from Western Europe increasingly reached Central Europe due to weaker demand from Asia, while domestic collection volumes remained subdued. Despite ongoing low arisings, mills in Poland were reportedly well stocked by early summer, largely because packaging paper production across Europe had been scaled back.

While brown recovered paper grades experienced notable price declines, the market for deinking grades and white recovered paper remained more stable.

Looking ahead, market players expect further price pressure in July, but some caution that a sharp rebound could occur later in the summer if prices drop too far too quickly.
