More production downtime eventually to come if uncertainty on the publication paper market persist.

SCA has completed one week of downtime at the Ortviken publication paper mill Sweden at the end of April. Production was temporarily halted on all three machines and the TMP line on 20 April and was up and running again as of 27 April, a company spokesperson explained.

In Ortviken SCA can produce up to 775,000 tpy of coated and uncoated magazine paper and improved newsprint. The temporary downtime at the Ortviken publication paper mill was market-related, resulting from weak demand on the publication paper market due to coronavirus. And more downtime could follow in the coming weeks and months if Covid-19 pandemic continues impacting business on printing, writing and publication paper markets.

"In response to the current uncertain market conditions, the Ortviken paper mill has planned for potential temporary stoppages, which may come at short notice, in the coming quarters. Currently, about 5 weeks of stoppages are planned for the spring and summer," SCA announced in its first quarter 2020 financial report.
