Prices for bleached and unbleached MG kraft paper remain largely stable in deliveries as of January.

The market for 40 g machine glazed (MG) kraft paper in Germany is still riding high on the growing interest in finding replacements for plastic packaging. Overall, however, the situation for brown and white bag kraft paper has eased somewhat in comparison to previous months. The market generally remained strong but availability had improved slightly, said industry insiders.

Prices for 40 g bleached and unbleached kraft paper remained largely stable across most of the market in January. In Germany, upward and/or downward price adjustments have been reported in scattered instances, especially for bleached grades.

The market has not yet felt the impact of Billerud Korsnäs 100,000 tpy MG kraft paper PM 10 that was officially inaugurated at the Skärblacka mill last September, according to industry experts. More MG kraft paper capacity is scheduled to come online in the second quarter of the year when Heinzel Group is going to fire up its new 100,000 tpy MG kraft paper machine at the Pöls site.
