Smurfit Kappa Group says new machine at the Massa Lombarda plant is the first installation worldwide of an in-line laminator in double wall with the patented "on-the-fly" technology.
Smurfit Kappa Group (SKG) is modernising converting machinery at the Italian corrugated packaging plants Massa Lombarda and Lunata. At the Massa Lombarda site near Ravenna a new in-line laminator was installed and has already commenced production in January 2013, according to SKG. The new machine was suitable for laminating both, solid board as well as single and double wall corrugated board, and was "the first installation in the world of an in-line laminator in double wave with the patented on-the-fly system,” the company explained.
The Lunata corrugated packaging facility near Lucca is getting equipped with a new seven-colour, flexo printing, rotary die-cutting machine with a high board line configuration. Lunata plant runs two corrugators with a total capacity of over 650,000 m² of cardboard and twelve converting lines. The new, flexo rotary die-cutter is expected to become operational in September this year, guaranteeing higher quality prints at a greater volume, according to SKG. Total cost of the two investment projects in Italy was not revealed.
