Slow demand on British cartonboard market

|

Virgin-fibre board buyers reported having been cautious when placing orders because they expect prices to be cheaper in the New Year. Manufacturers confirmed this state of affairs. A series of cheap spot offers are available at present in the UK, not only from the Far East and South America, but also in part from Continental Europe. Up until now, the majority of European virgin-fibre board producers have managed to fight off the pressure on prices, although insiders do still expect that suppliers will have to make price concessions next year. Their actual magnitude is not yet clear.
