Slowing coreboard demand thwarts producers’ price hike plans

The second quarter started off on a good note, but ended in subdued fashion for coreboard manufacturers in Italy.

Producers had informed their customers of plans to raise coreboard prices with effect from May or sometimes even as early as April due to initially solid demand, but mainly because of the sharp upswing in recovered paper prices.

However, coreboard manufacturers failed to reach their price goals in full. Recovered paper prices subsided just as quickly as they rose and demand from core manufacturers also cooled during the quarter.

Against this background, quite a few sources, including some suppliers, believe that coreboard prices might start to fall again soon. Weak demand and falling recovered paper prices were leading buyers to call for lower coreboard prices in July, it is said.
