Production in Smurfit Stone’s Canadian La Tuque mill is still down. On 8 November, a local union had initiated a work stoppage because no agreement had been reached with Smurfit Stone concerning employee contracts. Now, approximately 53% of the voting union members have rejected the company’s contract offer tendered on 10 November. Smurfit-Stone said it would not change the offer and lockout would remain in effect until an agreement was reached.
