The British newsprint market had not yet fully reached agreements about contracts and prices beyond 1 July. Producers were forced to back down from their original goal of charging about £40 more. A lengthy tug-of-war between manufacturers and quite a few buyers produced a rise of £20 in a number of cases. However, with a few key contracts still outstanding this round of price talks could not yet be described as finished as the middle of July neared.
