Iberpapel will upgrade the pulp line at Zicunaga fine paper mill in the second quarter 2020. Pulping operations will be interupted for several weeks.

Spanish Iberpapel Group will upgrade the pulp production line at its Papelera Guipuzcoana de Zicuñaga mill in Hernani during the second quarter. At the same time, maintenance work is to be carried out, so that production will be idled for 45 to 52 days, Iberpapel announced in a statement to the Spanish stock exchange supervisory authority CNMV.

The pulp line modernisation is part of the €180m "Hernani Project", which Iberpapel presented in May 2017. According to information available at that time, the pulp line upgrade will increase production capacity by 10-15 per cent to approximately 230,000 tpy of bleached eucalyptus kraft (BEK) pulp.

Iberpapel's Papelera Guipuzcoana de Zicuñaga mill in Hernani is an integrated pulp and paper mill. Zicuñaga fine paper mill operates one paper machine with an installed capacity of 250,000 tpy of uncoated woodfree paper.

The company did not respond to an EUWID inquiry about the impact of the temporary pulp mill downtime on paper production operations in Hernani.
