PM 5 at UPM's Blandin mill to be shut down by year-end

Closure to reduce annual capacity of coated magazine paper by about 128,000 tpy

UPM announced that all related processes to the planned closure of the PM 5 at its Blandin mill in Minnesota, USA, had now been completed. The machine would be permanently closed by the end of this year, the company said. 

UPM explained that it remained committed to the paper business in the long run, however, it needed to continuously adjust its output capacity to the market. The closure will remove about 128,000 tpy of coated magazine paper capacity from the market, the number of positions affected at the mill is 148. Paper production related to PM 6 a the Blandin site will continue.
