Uncoated woodfree paper manufacturers complain about a slower start to the fourth quarter.

Market players had mixed views about the present state of affairs on the uncoated woodfree paper market in Germany. A number of manufacturers informed about decent order books for October and November. Others reported that paper machines were by no means running at the high levels that producers had expected in the traditionally strong fourth quarter.

Businesses on Germany's uncoated fine paper market are looking ahead to 2013 and voicing concerns about the tough situation in southern Europe and the increasing crisis sentiment in Eastern Europe. The task was to put companies on a solid footing so that they were well-armed for these ongoing rigorous challenges, sources said.

Suppliers do expect German business to be comparatively strong. However, paper mills need to react to their disappointing margins in Germany. Good business in volume terms at present cannot disguise the losses suffered so far this year, nor can it hide the fact that sales prices were inadequate, observers said.
