A new market situation has emerged on Europe’s printing paper and writing paper market in the past couple of years in the wake of capacity closures and, more recently, a sharp uptick in manufacturers’ production costs. The result: all publication and fine paper prices have soared to new highs. The next few months will tell where exactly supply and demand stand, and prices for newsprint and magazine paper, as well as fine paper grades will even out accordingly. But a return to the very low prices charged in 2020 and 2021 across Europe appears pretty unlikely and is virtually impossible given much higher production costs....
