Finnish specialty paper and filtration materials manufacturer Ahlstrom-Munksjö wants to significantly improve the competitiveness of its one-side coated paper segment and investigates the closure of PM 1 at its Stenay plant in France.

The company announced that increased raw material costs and over-capacities in the global market and especially in Europe are the reasons for this initiative. Negotiations with the employees of the mill started on 30 October, reports Ahlstrom-Munksjö, adding that closing of the consultation is expected for January 2019.

Stenay site has approximately 220 employees and is specialised in the manufacturing of one-side coated papers for food and non-food flexible packaging, wet-glue or self-adhesive labels, metallising, release liners and other industrial applications.
