With ongoing acquisitions of US company Expera and Brazilian Caieiras, Ahlstrom-Munksjö will further strengthen its position as leading global supplier of advanced fibre-based materials with annual sales of nearly €3bn.

Ahlstrom-Munksjö has agreed to buy US-based specialty paper manufacturer Expera Specialty Paper Solutions for €526m on a cash and debt free basis. Completion of the transaction is expected in the second half of 2018.

Expera employs approximately 1,800 people and operates four paper mills in the US state of Wisconsin, two of which have an integrated pulp production. The acquisition will almost triple Ahlstrom-Munksjö’s net sales in the USA, further strengthen the company’s offering of advanced fibre-based materials and provide a platform for growth.

This is already Ahlstrom-Munksjö’s second acquisition in 2018. In April, the company announced its intention to buy the Caieiras facility from Brazilian MD Papéis Ltd. The transaction is expected to close in the third quarter of 2018.

The combined calculated sales of Ahlstrom-Munksjö, Expera and Caieiras amounted to €2,921m in 2017.
