Pulp stocks in European ports decreased

This week two Brazilian pulp producers announced that they would increase their prices for bleached eucalyptus kraft pulp (BEK) as of 1 June. They said that demand was strong, inventories low and the gap to softwood pulp prices too wide. Market insiders said that the step came to their surprise as prices for BEK have still been under pressure in May. Some respondents in the market suspected that these announcements were made in order to bring more stability to BEK prices, which have been dropping by $80 during the past three months.
