British Resource Association to close at the end of the year

The British Resource Association will be closing on 31 December 2019 due to changing priorities for its members which, at a time of economic uncertainty, have less demand for the cross-sectoral policy work that has characterised the role of the Association since its inception.

The Resource Association was launched in November 2011 by a cross-sectoral group of reprocessors and supply chain partners to focus on championing the value of UK reprocessing and recycling in terms of employment, resource efficiency and integrity, carbon reduction and the role of recycling in the low-carbon, green economy.

Over the past eight years, the organisation has championed the economic and environmental benefits of high-quality recycling. This has included the development of an End Destinations Charter to encourage transparency about what happens to recyclables after they have been collected, as well as the development of the Recycling Quality Information Point (ReQIP), which sets out quality guidelines for processing recyclables in the UK.

Commenting on the decision, Chief Executive Ray Georgeson said: "It is with a heavy heart that we make this announcement today, but the time is right for us to close the Association. We are currently exploring opportunities to pass on the baton for some of our activities to strategic partners in the resources industry."

Mr Georgeson, who  has served as its Chief Executive on a part-time contracted arrangement with his consultancy Ray Georgeson Resources Ltd throughout the life of the Association, will be continuing with his other roles in the industry (including trusteeship of WasteAid and non-executive directorship of LondonEnergy) and maintaining his RGR consulting business.
