The 200,000 tpy recycled containerboard mill in Avezzano, Italy is currently down due to a fire that damaged the paper machine.

The Avezzano paper mill of Italy's paper producer Burgo Group was hit by a fire. The company confirmed that on the evening of 26 February, a fire broke out in the dryer section of the site's paper machine. Nobody was hurt in the blaze.

Paper production was stopped and had not resumed yet, Burgo reported on the evening of 1 March. At the moment, the damage was being assessed, the company said, adding that it would then be able to say when production can be resumed. A trade union representative talking to local media estimated that the PM might be down for several days.

The Avezzano paper mill produces recycled corrugated case material on one machine, which has a capacity of 200,000 tpy. Burgo entered the packaging paper market only in 2018 with the rebuild of this site's machine, which formerly used to make fine paper.
