Cartiera dell'Adda is planning an investment at its PM 1 which will increase greyboard production at the site in Northern Italy. The company will take a ten-day downtime in August to implement rebuild work.

Italian board and coreboard producer Cartiera dell'Adda will upgrade the PM 1 at its mill near Lecco in Northern Italy. A company spokesman and the machine builder PMT Italia, who is in charge of realising the project, reported that the modernisation measures were aimed at improving the paper sheet strength properties and increasing production. Cartiera dell'Adda plans to implement rebuild work in August this year, halting production for ten days for this purpose.

PM 1 has currently a production capacity of 140,000 tpy of greyboard. The company spokesman anticipated that this year, Cartiera dell'Adda would already reach production of 150,000 t of board. The company was not planning to produce more coreboard though since this market was rather slowing down than growing, he added.

PM 1 produces greyboard with grammages ranging between 180 and 1,000 g/m² including coreboard and greyboard for edge protectors, interlayer separators and for graphic and converting purposes. The machine has a variable width of 4 m to 4.5 m and a maximum operating speed of 450 m/min. According to PMT, the order includes a new press section framework as well as the installation of a new shoe press.
