Another project for new containerboard capacities is in the pipeline in Italy. Cartiere del Polesine confirmed it has started the planning to install a new machine with a capacity of 300,000 tpy.

After plans for new capacities in Italy from Pro-Gest, Burgo and DS Smith, Cartiere del Polesine has also announced its intention to invest in a new containerboard machine. The company confirmed that the project had been initiated and the first bureaucratic steps were being taken. It could take around up to two years to receive all approvals for the project, said a company spokesperson, adding that construction would start thereafter. This means it might take three to four years until the new machine is ready for start-up.

According to Cartiere del Polesine, the new machine will have a width of 5.6 m and be able to make light-weight corrugated case material in grammages between 70 and 90 g/m² with a capacity of 300,000 tpy. It is not yet clear which company will deliver the new PM, but the company spokesman said the order would most probably be awarded to one of the three machine-engineering companies Andritz, Valmet or Voith. The investment sum was put at €200m.
