The new contamination standard for imports of recovered paper and board (RCP) is to enter into force on 1 March next year.
China has proposed adopting new regulation on waste paper and board imported as raw material, setting the contaminants cap at 0.5%. The World Trade Organisation (WTO) has been notified by the Chinese government of the new contaminant standard on 15 November, reports EUWID Recycling and Waste.
The comment period for this filing ends 15 December 2017 and the new contamination standard for imports of recovered paper and board is to enter into force on 1 March next year.
A recently circulated RCP contamination standard draft had contained a much higher cap of 1%, and had been viewed by stakeholders as grounds for optimism that the impact of the final standard might not be as dramatic as had been feared.
